Too many people know what it feels like to receive a phone call that turns their world upside down in an instant. Humans weren’t designed to drag around such a massive weight of fear and trauma. You deserve to be free!  

We made this app because:  

  • ​We all know what kind of “incidents” we’re referring to without us even explaining
  • Too many systems that were designed to protect us have proven time and time again they’re more interested in upholding the rights of others
  • ​The response from those who are meant to help has been so dismal, we need to arm ourselves with our own protection
  • ​Most senseless violence and hate crimes occur right near home, and yet they’re still happening every day
  • ​Too many of us have experienced this ourselves, or we know somebody that has
  • ​We have mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, aunties and uncles just like you and we’re not about to let them slip through our fingers if we can help it
  • ​We should have never had to even conceive of an app like this, but there were all these problems, along with the available technology to solve them, so here we are!

In short: because our rights always have and always will matter, and it’s about time people started acting like it.

How does it work?

We’ve designed ANJEL to be as accessible and intuitive as possible. In just a few steps, you can set up everything you need to ensure accountability and peace of mind for your loved ones.

  • ​Download the app and allow it to use your location.
  • ​Register and verify your account.
  • ​Select a plan (we offer free trials).
  • ​Add Viewers from your contacts to allow your loved ones to be notified and have access to your streams.
  • ​Add Streamers to enable your loved ones to stream ANJEL videos, too
  • ​Once you’re all set up, on the Camera tab you can swipe right to Start Stream, which sends out text and email notifications to notify your Viewers the moment you start, so they can watch it LIVE as a witness and access your location with GPS directions to provide help if need be.
  • ​You can swipe left to Record Video, which allows you to record and securely save that video in the cloud and doesn’t notify your viewers until the record is complete (when you set up your account, you can select whether this happens immediately after the stream or has a delay of 2-6 hours). This feature is useful if you want to record a video but don’t want to worry your loved ones immediately. Perhaps you’re witnessing somebody else in duress and want a clear recording for accountability’s sake, or you’re not sure if the situation you’re in will escalate - either way, the choice is up to you.
  • ​In the Videos tab, you have access to all records and their locations on a map by clicking the dots next to them, and Streamers/Viewers you’ve added to your account can do the same. It’s always going to be there to give you security as long as you require it, and nobody can take that away. You also have the option to Share these videos with others (via automated text links) or Download the videos for on-location storage and/or repurposing (posting, etc.)

Up until now, deciding to go live on Facebook or Instagram when you feel like you or a loved one’s safety is in danger has been the best technology available. That’s assuming that your data is safe in big tech’s hands, which is often not the case. When you stream life-altering moments to a social media platform, you’re putting your faith and future on the line, in hopes that they don’t delete your video and that the evidence you may need is always accessible. Unfortunately, that’s not always the way it goes, and there’s a very real chance that when it comes to crunch time, your video may disappear entirely, leaving you with nothing. ANJEL offers autonomy and control over what should have always been yours. All your recordings are stored in your own secure cloud, meaning that it will always be there and no company can decide to remove it if they see fit.

Our mission

ANJEL Tech was created by a fighter pilot turned tech innovator, James A. Samuel Jr.

Our work is motivated by the idea of harnessing the power of technology for the disenfranchised. As a man of color, James was sick of seeing the devastation of police brutality and self-entitlement ripple through his communities.  

But the saddest part is that he knew it wasn’t just limited to people like him. The realms of bigotry and entitlement are so deeply entrenched that many different types of people (minorities, LGBTQ+, women, elderly, etc.) can relate to the deep, primal fear that created this app. 

And the saddest part? We’ve succumbed to the notion that this is just the way things are and we simply need to get used to it, giving up the thought that the world will ever shift to accommodate us for a change.

We decided no more. It’s time for the world to start looking out for us, instead of us walking around scanning every new environment for a potential threat. 

Our team’s core mission is to make sure that you make it to the moments that count. We commit everything we have to celebrating and cultivating diversity, inclusion and safety.
